Course Meal at Hide Yamamoto, City of Dreams

So before 2016 has come to its end, Hubby brought me to City of Dreams as our last date of the year. Among those fancy restaurants inside, we decided to try Hide Yamamoto located at the Upper Ground Level. Hide Yamamoto is a multi-concept fine dining experience that offers different menus such as sushi, teppanyaki, robatayaki and ramen by Chef Hide Yamamotoone of 2010’s Global Award recipients.

The menu is displayed outside so guests can check first before they get inside the restaurant.

The place is modern and elegant at the same time. I think it is enough to accommodate as many as 40 guests. As we walked in, we were assisted promptly to our seats.

We ordered a lunch course meal for P1500 (VAT ex) and drinks. After few minutes, our first course and drinks were served.

Apple Juice – Green Salad – Mango Juice

This is the first time I tried a mix of cucumber, onion, and carrot drizzled with vinegarette and topped off with seafood flakes (I think). We both loved it. The vegetables taste fresh and the vinegarette is just right. Not too overpowering.

Moving on to the appetizers, Hubby ordered assorted sashimi while I got myself the three kinds of appetizers since I preferred cooked meals.

(Assorted Sashimi) Salmon – Bluefin Tuna – Horse Mackerel

(Three Kinds of Appetizers) Braised Otoro – Deep Fried Fish – Soy-braised Eggplant

I am new to these and surprisingly, they all tastes good.

For the main course, Hubby got himself his favorite – Assorted Tempura while Teppan Grilled Angus Beef for myself. Each meal comes with rice, miso soup, and pickles.

Assorted Tempura

The tempura is not covered with so much flour compared to other tempura we have tried. You can definitely taste that the shrimp is healthy and fresh. If that makes any sense lols.

Teppan Grilled Angus Beef

At first, I was a bit disappointed to the amount of serving and thought this won’t satisfy my empty stomach. But lo and behold, it did! The miso soup is so tasty and side dishes (white onion and red bell pepper) tastes fresh and juicy. I wanted my steak to be well done and it came as expected, tender and delicious as well. Even those tiny bits of meat on the side are satisfying especially with a big chunk of rice. I finished everything on my plate and I was so damn full!!! *burp*

Match Roll with Fruits

We capped off our course meal with a delectable sweet, matcha roll with fruits. I’m not a fan of matcha (because I don’t like the herbal kind of taste) but boy, you should definitely try this. I was surprised hubby also liked it despite the fact that he’s not really into sweets. That’s how good this matcha roll was. It has texture, the filling has the right sweetness and not much of an herbal taste. The fruits were also served fresh and taste sweet.

Overall, it was a great experience. The staff is very attentive that he removed our plates right after we finished and served the next course promptly.  The ambiance is relaxing and perfect for meetings and family gathering. The food is excellent and indeed worth every cent.

Banapple [Pies and Cheesecakes] in Katipunan QC

Everyday I passed by Katipunan road going to work, I saw a lot of restaurants which I’ve been meaning to try and that includes Banapple. The main store is under renovation so the other branch right across the road which I assumed their bakery is currently serving main dishes until the construction is finished. [Update: The construction is finished and now serving]

Banapple started baking pies & cheesecakes years ago, initially for friends and family, and referred food establishments. shortly, banapple expanded its client base to include well known food establishments and restaurants, all being served from a home-based kitchen located in quezon city. the brand ‘banapple’ (banana + apple) was established, a contraction on the main ingredients of the banoffee pie and the apple caramel crumble pie, two of banapple’s early hits. banapple shortly thereafter transferred its main kitchen to a bigger and more accessible location along katipunan avenue in quezon city. banapple operates a cake showroom cum cafe at the facade of this kitchen.
Banapple pies & cheesecakes is a novel find in the metropolis. in addition to pies, cakes and cheesecakes, banapple serves yummy home-cooked style hot meals like the well-loved chicken parmigiano, lasagna roll-ups and hickory-smoked country ribs as well as sandwiches, pastas, and great pancakes. banapple has become a pleasant landmark, and commuters stop for a quick take out to and from work and school. bakers and waitstaff are friendly and offer fast and personalized service. great for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks, anyone can enjoy yummy meals and excellent desserts alongside good coffee any time of the day 🙂 Source

So last Saturday, my family and I finally had the chance and went there for a late lunch. The place is too small, though I couldn’t complain since that particular branch only caters bread and pastries prior to the renovation. The seats were all occupied by the time we arrived so we have to wait for vacant seats while hubby ordered our food at the counter.

Super Ceaser Salad P160
An all time favorite salad of mixed greens with bacon bits and parmesan made more scrumptious with pecan pralines

Hickory Smoked Barbecued Country Ribs P220

Extra tender country ribs grilled in hickory smoke, glazed with our homemade hickory barbecue sauce, served with corn relish

This is what I ordered. The taste was not that remarkable as I find their barbecue sauce just like an ordinary one from the grocery store. Meanwhile, the ribs were soft and tender which best paired with corn relish to neutralize the sweetness of the barbecue sauce.

Chicken Parmigiano P215

Tender fillets of chicken breast encrusted in a parmesan crumb mixture top with rich stewed tomato meat sauce and melted mozzarella; served with glazed butter carrots

When I asked hubby his verdict, he simply said: “Tastes just like chizza”. Chizza is the newest variety of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). It is basically a chicken fillet on topped with pizza sauce and toppings. Surprisingly, he liked it.

And here’s the exciting part. Wohooo!

Banoffee Pie P115
Okay, this is the reason why I’ve been meaning to try this restaurant. It’s because of their famous banoffee pie! Isn’t it enticing? *drools*

I rate this 8 out of 10. I love how the ingredients balanced the sweetness whereas you won’t get fed off the taste. I also love the fresh banana comes with it. On the other hand, I think they went overboard on the whipped cream. As you can see, it almost has the same thickness as the thin crust and the banana layering. Too much of whipped cream looks unhealthy for my liking.
Overall, we were satisfied in what we ordered and had a wonderful time during our stay. We will definitely try their pasta dishes on our next visit.

Tokyo Tonteki Philippines [The Pursuit of the Perfect Pork Loin Steak]

We headed for a late lunch after we successfully booked One Cafe and Events for Cloud’s 1st birthday that will be held on January 2016.
I was craving for ramen so we stopped by at UP Town Center to look for a Japanese restaurant and to our dismay, we couldn’t find one (unbeknownst to us, there is Ramen Nagi inside!) and went to Tokyo Tonteki instead.

Ripe Mango Shake in Tokyo Tonteki

I was impressed on how they strategically planned the small space given. It appears wider due to its lighting setup. I also enjoyed staring at the black and white graffiti that brings the restaurant to a fun and quirky ambiance.

Kani Salad, P170

Best Kani Salad I’ve tasted so far as I find their mayo unique in a way that bests compliments with mango bits, cucumber, and stripped Kani sticks.

Chopped Tonteki Set 250g (385php)

Thick, tender & juicy pork loin steak cooked using Tokyo Tonteki’s unique low temperature cooking technique & simmered in our signature sauces. Tokyo Tonteki Sauce or Ginger Sauce topped with toasted garlic chips.

Every set meals come with unlimited Japanese rice, shredded cabbage, and pork miso soup.

100% premium ground pork meat patty with diced onions cooking using Tokyo Tonteki’s unqiue low temperature cooking technique doused with our signature sauces. Tokyo Tonteki Sauce or Savory Sweet Onion Steak Sauce.

This meal is mouthwatering in the picture and in actual taste. It’s even more tasteful once you eat this with their Japanese rice.

1. Nice ambiance
2. Great customer service
3. Reasonable price for their meals
4. Unlimited rice, cabbage, pork miso soup

Cons: NONE
